Under a new shared service agreement between Allentown and the Hamilton Fire District 9, Hamilton will provide weekday hour primary fire services as well as non-mutual aid calls for the borough. Hamilton will also provide fire inspection services that were previously paid to the Robbinsville Township Fire Department.
Hope Fire Company, located on Route 526 in Allentown, will remain the borough’s main fire service provider during the evenings and weekends.
This new share service agreement with Hamilton District 9 will cost approximately $80,000.
Allentown Mayor Stuart Fierstein described the specifics of the agreement.
“Upper Freehold offered an agreement to Allentown effective January 2015 that would cost, for the 40-hour daytime staff, over $122,000.00 in the first year of an ascending contract for 10-years. Our agreement with Hamilton District 9 is for $79,000.00, which includes $6,225.00 worth of Fire Inspection Services previously paid to Robbinsville, as Upper Freehold refused to provide it.”
“The distinction that needs to be understood is that both Allentown and Hamilton District 9 are in FULL support of Hope Fire Company and will continue to support Hope Fire Company, which is not the paid staff, as the paid staff represents themselves as Upper Freehold Fire Company. We have made these decisions in consultation with the Hope Fire Company and the Fire Marshall of Monmouth County,” Mayor Fierstein said.
