Congratulations! Allentown Borough has been awarded $225,000 from the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Fiscal Year 2019 Municipal Aid Program for improvements to Pondview Drive.
The application was submitted by the Borough Engineer, Carmela Roberts, PE, CME, of Roberts Engineering Group, LLC, to acquire funding for milling and overlay with base repairs as needed along the entire length of Pondview Drive from North Main Street to the cul-de-sac. The proposed improvements will include replacement of deteriorated curb, new sidewalk where none exists, reconstruction of curb tamps to be compliant with ADA standards, replacement of regulatory signage, and 2” mill overlay with subbase repairs where needed. Upgrades of existing inlets to meet New Jersey Department of Transportation Bicycle Safe Grate Standards and New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Stormwater Regulations will also be included. The total project cost is estimated at $323,565.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Municipal Aid Program is a very competitive program. This year the Department received 681 applications requesting more than $377.9 million. There is $161.25 million available in funds from the Transportation Trust Fund supported by the State gas tax. As part of the Department’s Commitment to Community, the NJDOT provides statewide assistance for local governments for improvements to and preservation of the local transportation network which makes up 90% of New Jersey’s roadways.
