Now Hiring – Allentown Borough

ALLENTOWN BOROUGH IS NOW HIRING FULL-TIME SEASONAL DPW LABORERS (2), A PART-TIME OFFICE CLERK (1), AND PART-TIME CROSSING GUARDS (2). 

FULL-TIME SEASONAL DPW LABORER (120 Day)

Under direction of the Public Works Superintendent, performs varied types of manual and unskilled laboring work. Does other related duties as required. We are hiring one employee for the summer and another employee for the fall. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
-Performs arduous tasks involved in loading garbage and refuse from sidewalks and curbs into trucks.
-Loads, lifts, and moves supplies, furniture, and equipment.
-Digs trenches and does manual grading.
-Collects rubbish and other refuse.
-Cuts grass.
-Waters trees, lawns, and flower beds.
-Loads and unloads trucks.
-Shovels snow.
-Shovels gravel and sand.
-Rakes leaves & may be required to operate leaf vacuuming equipment.
-Performs cold patching.
-Cuts down trees.
-Digs out stumps of trees, and digs out and destroys poisonous vines, weeds, and undergrowth.
-Loads debris into truck for removal.
-Other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS:
NJ Driver’s License is required. 
SALARY: $12.50 per hour.


PART-TIME OFFICE ASSISTANT

Under the direction of the Municipal Clerk, a part-time Office Assistant is needed to perform administrative and customer service related functions to support the office staff. We are looking to fill one position. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
-Processing sewer, tax, water and license payments at the window.
-Scheduling services for residents at the window, over the phone and through e-mail. 
-Answer questions about Borough operations at the window, over the phone, and through e-mail.
-Processing animal and mercantile licenses. 
-Processing Historic Preservation Review Commission, special events, Recreational and Park Use, and Parades and Assemblies permit applications.
-Processing Open Public Record Act (OPRA) requests.
-Aiding with archiving, records retention and records destruction.
-Inputting purchase orders.
-Preparing purchase orders for the bill list.
-Following up with new vendors to secure Business Registration Certificates and I-9 documentation.
-Ordering office supplies.
-Securing quotes for services for the Chief Financial Officer.
-Preparing bank deposits.
-Assisting utility billing 
-Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
-Experience with Microsoft Office platforms, including: Word, Excel, Outlook, & internet platforms.
-Experience with Edmunds.
-Ebility to work in a fast-paced municipal environment.
-Ability to multi-task.
-Ability to work independently.
-Ability to provide stellar customer service with the public.

The ideal candidate will have:
-Experience with utility billing. We use Census.
-Experience with payroll. We use ADP. 

NJ Driver’s License is required. 
SALARY: $12 TO $15 per hour depending upon experience.


PART-TIME CROSSING GUARDS 

Applicants needed for work Monday through Friday from 6:45AM-9AM & 1:45PM-4:00PM during the school year with the occasional special event. Applicants need to pass a pre-employment physical and be willing to attend additional training. We are looking to fill one regular position and one fill-in position. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
-Guide pedestrians across streets and intersections.
-Halt traffic when necessary.
-Perform responsible repetitive duties requiring some judgment in directing traffic and handling emergencies.
-Constant physical effort demanded in standing or walking while performing duties under varying weather conditions.
-Assists school children in waiting for and boarding school buses if necessary.
-Does related duties as required.
 
-some knowledge of traffic and school bus rules and regulations may be required
 
REQUIREMENTS:
-Ability to read, write and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
-Ability to handle traffic conditions promptly, tactfully and impartially.
-Ability to maintain effective traffic safety rules with school children.
-Ability to talk with and/or signal people to convey or exchange information.
-Mobility, eyesight and hearing must also be in a good condition in order to effectively and safely perform duties. SALARY: $13.33 per hour.
