Here’s an update on what’s going on in Allentown Borough.

Senior Citizen Surveys were mailed out in the middle of June. Please return your form as soon as possible to Borough Hall by dropping it off in our mail slot in the door or by dropping it to the mailbox of Joe Monticello at 2 Pondview Drive. The Mayor’s Senior Citizen Ad Hoc Committee is collecting the information so that the Committee can identify and work towards meeting the needs of senior citizens in our community.

On June 25th, 17 volunteers came out to work on the Old Burial Cemetery on Lakeview Drive. Armed with only gloves and rakes, this group put in over four hours of hard work. We are grateful for their assistance on this multi-phase project. For more information, click here. On June 28th, 3 volunteers came out to plant beautiful grasses and flowers in the new metal flower boxes on Main Street. We are grateful for their efforts in making our downtown more appealing The flower boxes are part of the Historic Streetscape Project that was 100% funded with grant funding. Zero tax dollars were used to complete this project. For more information, click here.

The Governing Body decided at the Council meeting on June 28th to retain the legal services of Vito Gagliardi, Jr. of Porzio, Bromberg, and Newman, P.C., of Morristown to assist in our Tax Court case regarding the 2016-2017 Upper Freehold Regional School District school tax apportionment rate. At the same Council meeting, the Governing Body appointed Joseph McGrath as the new part-time Code Enforcement, Housing Inspector, and Zoning Officer. He starts on July 5th.

Our Community Development Block Grant application was delivered today to the Monmouth County Planning Office. Thank you to all the residents and community groups who submitted letters of support to my office for our project! The Borough is seeking additional grant funds to continue the ADA-sidewalk improvements found in the Historic Streetscape Project to additional areas within the Borough. We will keep you posted on our application as it moves through the evaluation process.
